GROTTOS - ABRIS
Still there can be found the open grottos - so-called abris - of the stone age hunters, who settled on the mountain about 6000 BC. The "Ettichogrotte" (grotto of Etticho, one of the names of Odilia's father) was such an abri. The legend tells, Odilia's brutal father would have build it as a hermits place for himself, but it's more probable, that Odilia used this abri for her rituals of visions. Scientifically it's a stone age abri just under the convent. See below this grotto and as a second one the "Stollhafen" (Alsatian word for a cauldron with three legs), another stone age abri. The third picture shows a double grotto near the old Roman Road.
Wer aufmerksam ist, findet noch heute die offenen Grotten, sogenannte Abris der steinzeitlichen Nomadenjäger, die den Berg um 6000 n.u.Z. besiedelten. Die "Ettichogrotte" ist ein solcher Abri. Der Legende nach habe sich hier der bekehrte Vater Odilias als Einsiedler zurückgezogen, es könnte aber auch sein, dass sich hier Odilia für ihre Visionen zurückgezogen hatte. Wissenschaftlich gesehen ist es ein steinzeitlicher Abri genauso wie der sogenannte Stollhafen (zweites Bild). Stollhafen ist ein dreibeiniger Kessel im Elsässischen, der Name verweist auf die Form. Das dritte Bild zeigt einen Doppel-Abri nahe der alten Römerstrasse.
