GROTTO OF THE DRUIDS - DRUIDENGROTTE

The so-called "grotto of the Druids" (Druidengrotte / Grotte des Druides) has never been built or used by Druids. The name derived from the still existing confusion concerning megaliths. Last century started to be a time of historical romantizism and a new "Celtomania", while authors declared every special stone and every megalith as "Celtic" or "Druidic". Most famous example of this confusion is Stonehenge. The Alsatian archeologue Forrer, who just had visited Stonehenge in these times, gave the rocks on the Bloss the name "Grotto of Druids" - before there wasn't any name for the group of the three dolmen-like group of rocks. Today we should know better: Megaliths were built in neolithic times, thousands of years before any Celts came to Europe. But unfortunately the wrong myths of Druids using these stone age graves as altar are kept alive by some dowsers and New Age religions.

Die sogenannte Druidengrotte wurde nie von Druiden gebaut oder benutzt. Der Name kam von der sich bis heute hartnäckig haltenden Märchentheorie, die Megalithen und Kelten in eine Zeit rückt. Im letzten Jahrhundert begann ein neuer historischer Romantizismus, infolgedessen eine Keltomanie. Jeder besondere Stein, jeder Megalith wurde plötzlich keltisch oder druidisch genannt. Die moderne Esoterikszene verfestigt diesen Nonsense. Megalithen wurden Tausende von Jahren vor der Einwanderung der Kelten gebaut. Tausende von Jahren, bevor Kelten existierten. Dass Druiden oder Kelten diese Steine ebenfalls verehrten und nutzten, ist ein absolut unbewiesener Wunschtraum.

Outside from the forest there's a megalithic avenue guiding to the biggest dolmen. It's not easy to make it out, because most of the standing stones had fallen down the hill or are hidden in the soil. On the pic above you see the end of this avenue.

Vom Wald läuft eine megalithische Avenue auf den größten Dolmen zu. Sie ist schwierig zu erkennen, weil viele Steine abgerutscht oder teilweise unter der Erde verborgen sind. Auf dem Bild oben das Ende der Avenue.
